Amber Hughes was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Houston, Texas. Growing up, she always had an infatuation with local news. Over the years she’s used her platform to bring light to under-represented communities through her storytelling.

Amber joins the Spectrum News 1 Texas team after being a reporter at FOX23 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Leading the station's coverage of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre leading up to the centennial commemoration.

Oklahoma has been Amber’s second home since attending Oklahoma State University, Go Pokes! She bleeds America’s brightest orange as a graduate with two degrees in sports media broadcast production and multimedia journalism news with a minor in leadership.

Post college, Amber worked on the assignment desk at KRIV Fox 26 in Houston before moving to Jackson, Tennessee to join WBBJ-TV, serving as the weekend sports anchor and Multimedia Journalist.

After nearly a decade away from the Lone Star state, Amber and her husband are happy to finally be back in Texas. Just a short drive away from Houston. They look forward to exploring the Alamo City’s food and culture.

Amber is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.
