AUSTIN, Texas — It’s a moment music fans have been waiting a long time for. The Austin City Limits Music Festival Thursday announced this year’s headliners as George Strait, Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, DaBaby, Erykah Badu and Rüfüs Du Sol.
Other acts include Austin’s Black Pumas, Megan Thee Stallion, Modest Mouse, Doja Cat and Greta Van Fleet.
The festival is held annually at Austin’s Zilker Park and this year will be held Oct. 1-3 and 8-10.
Tickets are on sale beginning at noon Thursday.
Like so many large events including South by Southwest, the 2020 ACL Festival was a casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Austin this week was downgraded to Stage 2 of Austin Public Health’s risk-based COVID-19 guidelines, access to COVID-19 vaccines has improved greatly in recent months and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has relaxed its virus guidelines, stating that people who are vaccinated can safely gather indoors and outdoors without wearing a mask in most settings.
The CDC still recommends wearing a mask in crowded settings, which would certainly include ACL Festival. Information concerning a mask policy and other social distancing measures has yet to be released.
Launched in 2002, ACL Festival is based on the KLRU/PBS music program of the same name. It was held over one weekend until 2013, when it was expanded to two weekends.
Past headliners include Metallica, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead and numerous other big-name acts.
