AUSTIN, Texas — The Longhorns are back on the practice field Thursday a week after COVID-19 protocols put the brakes on the Steve Sarkisian era.
The University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday announced the team’s medical staff has cleared the Longhorns to return to practice.
Texas Athletics, concerning the protocols, last week issued the following statement:
“Out of an abundance of caution, Texas Football will pause spring practice sessions as a result of student-athletes impacted by COVID-19 protocols. The Longhorn medical staff will monitor the situation and COVID-19 testing will continue as a plan for some team activities is reviewed, but all meetings on Thursday will be virtual and team practices will not take place for the next several days, beginning with tomorrow’s scheduled morning workout.”
While the statement is a bit vague, a report from 247Sports indicates there were multiple positive COVID-19 tests, and a source told the publication it involved running backs and the defensive line.
There are several practices scheduled ahead of the free Orange-White game, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 24.
