TEXAS — Restaurant chain Steak ‘n Shake announced Tuesday it will be replacing its counter service with self-serve kiosks.
The parent company, Biglari Holdings, said its transitioning its restaurants to a quick-service model.
The company said it had plans to convert to a self-service model prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the pandemic sped up the process.
Customers will still be able to eat inside the restaurant, but they won’t order at a table or at a counter with an attendant. Guests will now initiate their transaction at a kiosk.
The company says it’s embracing efficiency and transitioning the service model to empower guests to place and pick up their own orders.
Steak ‘n Shake has been in business since 1934 and has dozens of locations across Texas.
