AUSTIN, Texas - Former U.S. Rep Beto O’Rourke is adding college professor to his resume. O'Rourke, also a former presidential candidate, will teach at the University of Texas at Austin during the spring semester.
According to LBJ School of Public Affairs Communications and Marketing Director Victoria Yu, O’Rourke will teach a graduate course focused on voting history and voter participation in Texas.
O’Rourke knows something about voter participation in the state. In 2018 he gave Republican Sen. Ted Cruz a serious run for re-election, garnering national attention in the process and setting a record for the most votes cast for a Democrat in Texas history.
The UT job is not the former representative’s only teaching gig. In October it was announced that he’ll join the Department of Political Science at Texas State University in the spring. It is likely that O’Rourke will teach virtually.
O’Rourke represented Texas’ 16th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. He sought the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in 2020.
