AMARILLO, Texas – News outlets in Amarillo, Texas, say a kindergarten student died of COVID-19 last week.

According to KFDA, health officials announced the death only days after it was uncovered that Amarillo ISD has some of the highest case levels in the state.

The outlet says few details were available other than the fact that the child attended a school in the district.

KFDA says as of Sunday, there were more than 5,000 active COVID-19 cases in the Amarillo area and the hospitalization rate is currently at 30.84% for the region.
