TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas  – 2020 has seen records set in Texas and elsewhere across the county for early voting, and Texas’ Travis County, home of Austin and the surrounding area, hit a milestone on Wednesday.

According to Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir, around noon Wednesday the county surpassed its total voter turnout in 2016.

As of midday Wednesday, 486,206 total votes had been cast during the early voting period in the county. The 2016 total is 477,588.

There are two days left to vote early in Texas. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

Williamson and Hays counties broke their respective turnout records earlier in the week.

Nationally, the story is much the same. As of Wednesday, more than 74 million people had already cast their votes, which exceeds the total number of people who voted early or absentee in 2016 and represents more than 50% of the 2016 vote total.

Texas continues to lead the nation in total early votes cast as well as turnout in comparison to its 2016 election total.
