TEXAS – Monday is the last day to register to vote here in Texas in time for the November presidential election. Here’s what you need to know about getting registered.

What You Need To Know

  • Monday is the last day to register to vote for November election

  • Not everyone can update their registration online

  • Forms mailed in must be postmarked by October 5

You can check to see if you’re already registered to vote on the Texas Secretary of State’s (SOS) website, here.

At minimum you will need to provide your name, birthdate, the county you think you’re registered in, and your ZIP code. You can also look up your information using your driver’s license number or your Voter Unique Identifier (VUID) found on your previous voter registration card.

If you’re not registered to vote, there are a couple ways you can do so.

Thanks to a court ruling passed only weeks ago, when you go to update your address online for your driver’s license, you can now update your voter registration as well.

If you moved within the same county but don’t need to update your driver’s license at the moment, there is another way to update your voter registration online through the SOS website.

There you must have your driver’s license number, your VUID, and your Social Security number.

If you’re voting in Texas for the first time or moved to a different Texas county, you have to mail in your application and it must be postmarked by October 5.

You can fill out the application here, but note that you must print and mail it in. There is not a way to submit digitally. Those same applications are also available at many post offices, libraries, the Texas Department of Public Safety offices, and Texas Health and Human Services Commission offices throughout the state, according to the SOS.

When you mail in the form, make sure you send it to the correct voter registration officials for your county. You can see the state-wide list here, but below are several of the names and addresses for area-counties.
