NATIONWIDE — Shortly after President Donald Trump nominated U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace deceased Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the United States Supreme Court, a tweet by the National Republican Senatorial Committee is receiving some harsh judgment.

The tweet, intended to rally support for the president’s nomination, advertises a T-shirt referring to Barrett as “Notorious A.C.B.”

Of course, Ginsburg was popularly referred to as “Notorious R.B.G.,” leading many on social media to characterize the tweet and T-shirt as tacky or in poor taste.

U.S. Sen Marco Rubio, R-Florida, advertised a similar T-Shirt on his Twitter account.

Ginsburg just died on September 18, and online outcry was swift. Writer Mark Harris, for instance, tweeted, “GOP feminism: All women are interchangeable and all you need to do is brand them.”

Similarly, California Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized the T-shirt, writing on Twitter that "This makes me sick to my stomach."

Trump nominated Barrett from the White House Rose Garden on Saturday afternoon, referring to her as "one of our nation's most brilliant and gifted legal minds."

The nomination is already mired in controversy, with Democrats preferring a justice be nominated after the November election and Republicans maintaining it is Trump’s duty to fill the seat as quickly as possible.

"I fully understand that this is a momentous decision for a president," Barrett said Saturday. "I love the United States and I love the United States Constitution."
