AUSTIN, Texas – While it’s anticipated many regular holiday events will be canceled this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show will go on for Austin's Trail of Lights.

What You Need To Know

  • City council to voted on Thursday

  • The 2020 event will be a drive-through

  • Organizers will release more info at a later date

On Thursday, the Austin City Council voted to expand the event to a full 30 days. This allows organizers to turn it into a free drive-through that could accommodate 1,300 vehicles a day.

According to the ordinance, the traditional in-person event isn’t possible this year and city staff believe the drive-through option will be one of the only ways for the public to enjoy holiday activities.

Organizers for Trail of Lights said they're excited to move forward with the event and will release more details in mid-October.
