FRANCE — Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) star Conor McGregor was released from police custody without being charged Saturday in Corsica, France, following an arrest Thursday for alleged sexual assault and indecent exposure.

According to numerous media reports, the alleged incident took place in a bar in Corsica. Police have not disclosed who made the report. ESPN reported that McGregor was released after being interviewed.

McGregor’s agent, Audie Attar, described the incident as an attempt to extort the fighter for money or notoriety.

"I am irate and putting out a warning loud and clear: Conor McGregor is not and will not be a target for those seeking to score a headline or a payday,” Attar told ESPN.

McGregor was reportedly in the area for the Calvi-Monaco Water Bike Challenge. Athletes steer water bikes from Monaco to Corsica for charity, ESPN reported.

The isn’t McGregor’s first run-in with the law. In 2019 he was charged after allegedly punching a man in a Dublin bar. He pleaded guilty and reached a settlement, reports indicated.
