TEXAS – The daughter of Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, is taking to social media to ask the public to wear masks after her father tested positive for the virus.
The message was posted to Instagram and Twitter by Caroline Brooks, a musician who performs by the name Bellsaint, on Sunday.
The post reads: “Wearing a mask is a non-partisan issue. The advice of medical experts shouldn’t be politicized. My father ignored medical expertise and now he has COVID. This has been a heartbreaking battle [because] I love my dad and don’t want him to die. Please please listen to medical experts. It’s not worth following a president who has no remorse for leading his followers to an early grave.”
Gohmert, 66, is one of the House’s most conservative and outspoken members and is at least the 10th member of Congress known to have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Before the positive diagnosis, he was supposed to join President Trump in West Texas for a rally. Gohmert told media outlets at the time he was self-quarantining instead.
Last week Gohmert tweeted he’s taking Hydroxychloroquine, a malaria treatment that has not proven effective in preventing or combating COVID-19.
