AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD schools will start the school year virtually, due to the continued threat of COVID-19.

According to the district, the first day of school is August 18 and the first three weeks will be held online.

Teachers and staff need to report to school weeks before that date.

AISD said the health and safety of its students and staff are at the forefront of all of their decisions, and will look to federal, state and local authorities for guidance and directives. Additional information is forthcoming.

Round Rock ISD will also be holding the first three weeks of school online, and classes start August 20.
