AUSTIN, Texas -- It's been a big balance between campaigning and the coronavirus for candidates in the July 14 runoff election. That especially rings true for one of the Democrats seeking their party's nomination for U.S. House District 10.
Pritesh Gandhi is a primary care physician in Austin. He spends his day collecting nasal swabs from low-income patients to test for the coronavirus and his evenings moonlighting as a political candidate. He's been campaigning on the issue of the coronavirus and how he would have pushed for a different approach.
"This could have been prevented with science-driven, evidence-based intervention federally and the government failed," he said in an interview on Capital Tonight.
Gandhi is up against Austin civil rights attorney Mike Siegel. Both want the chance to take on longtime Republican Congressman Michael McCaul in the fall. National Democrats are also targeting the race after Siegel narrowly lost to McCaul in 2018.
The district stretches from Austin to the Houston suburbs.
Early voting starts Monday and runs for two weeks. Election Day is July 14.
