On Friday, the Austin Independent School District and UT Austin announced they were canceling classes for students and staff. This comes on the same morning city officials announced two presumptive positive cases in the capital city. A third presumtive case was announced by Austin Public Health about 1:45 p.m. Friday.
One is a man in his 60s who is hospitalized and the second is a woman in her 30s who is quarantined at home. The third case is a woman in her 60s. Neither case is believed to be community spread, meaning they did not get the virus from an unknown infected person they had contact with.

At a press conference Friday morning, city officials said the recent cases put them in “Phase Three” of their five-phase response plan.
Austin Public Health says it is in constant communication with the Texas Department of State Health Services, the CDC, and area health care agencies.
AISD made the announcement about canceled classes around 3 a.m. Friday morning. They say they are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

UT Austin, St. Edward's University and Austin Community College also canceled Friday classes. UT officials are saying online that only essential personnel should be working today. In addition to canceling classes, UT said they have suspended campus visits, tours, and in-person events until further notice.
Earlier this week, UT Austin and ACC officials said they were extending spring break until March 30. St. Edward's will not resume classes until April 4. AISD, St. Edward's, and UT Austin were already scheduled to go on Spring Break from March 16 to March 20.
