AUSTIN, Texas — Three Austin-area families welcomed new additions to ring in the new year. 

At Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, Kent Adan Silva made his debut on January 1 at 12:40 a.m. He weighs in at eight pounds, five ounces and is 21.25 inches in length. His parents are Emily Flores and Edgar Kent. Because Kent was the first baby born at Ascension this year, his family received a gift basket and free taco money for a year’s worth of tacos from Torchy’s Tacos.

At Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway, baby girl Katelynn made her way into the world at 12:31 a.m. on January 1. She weighs in at six pounds, 7.3 ounces and measured 19 inches. Her proud parents are Esme and Jose.

The first baby of the New Year Central Texas Medical Center’s Women’s Center was born at 4:05 p.m. on January 1. Dr. Kody Kunda delivered San Marcos’ newest resident, Elena Martinez, who weighed in at six pounds, five ounces. She is the first child for parents Juan Martinez and Maria Hernandez, both San Marcos natives. CTMC presented the new family with a pack-and-play filled with new-baby necessities like diapers, a mobile, swaddles, teething toys and other supplies.
