AUSTIN, Texas – Twelve families in Austin all have something in common right now you might not expect. Each family has a set of newborn twins staying in the same NICU.

  • Half of twins are born early in U.S.
  • Currently 12 sets of twins in Austin NICU

As of Monday, St. David’s Women’s Center NICU is home to 12 sets of twins.

Jennifer and Preston Moses are the parents to two of those babies, Pasley and Piper.

The parents say they’ve had some time to adjust to the idea of having twins.

So far it’s actually been less hectic than they remember the birth of their older daughter, who is now 12 years old, being.

The Moses parents are grateful for their new daughters, their "rainbow babies." They lost a son at birth about a year and a half ago.

Jennifer Moses has been in the hospital since August, and her new daughters are expected to be there for six to eight weeks before they can go home.

They say though the girls are progressing fast and they hope they can take them home early.

About half of twins born in the U.S. are born early, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. And they say multiples of three or more are almost always born preterm.
