WASHINGTON -- Former Texas governor and current U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry is planning to leave the Trump administration in December, according to numerous sources including the New York Times and Washington Post.

  • Reports suggest Rick Perry to resign by year’s end
  • Served as energy secretary since 2017
  • Former governor of Texas

Perry has made no statement concerning the reports.

Perry is among President Donald Trump’s longest-serving Cabinet members, along with Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and Secretary of Housing and Development Ben Carson.

According to the New York Times, Perry’s anticipated resignation comes as his role promoting natural gas and coal exports in Ukraine has come under congressional scrutiny.

Perry, the 14th United States secretary of energy, served as the 47th governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015. He unsuccessfully ran for president in 2012 and 2016.
