NATIONWIDE -- On Wednesday, Apple announced its successors to last year’s iPhone XS/XR models.
- Pre-orders began Friday
- Battery life upgraded with new phones
- Improved Face ID
The newly announced iPhone 11, is the iPhone XR’s replacement and will feature an all glass display that comes in an array of colors: white, black, yellow, red, and new purple and green colors. The phone has a 6.1-inch LCD display that Apple calls a “liquid retina HD display.”
The hardware also gets a boost with its A13 Bionic 7-nanometer chip that includes a third generation neural engine which Apple says is 20 percent faster than the A12 chips included in last year’s phones.
Battery life also gets an upgrade and lasts one hour longer than the iPhone XR, which were released last September.
Apple is known for its yearly camera upgrades and this year was no different. iPhone 11’s camera touts a dual-lens 12-megapixel camera system that features a standard wide and ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view that can record in 4K. It even has a new night mode feature that will improve photos taken in low light conditions. The front camera is also upgraded with a new 12-megapixel camera that supports 120 fps slow-motion video, with improved Face ID.
Apple did not stop there. It also announced premium versions of their phones called the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Max. With these being last year’s iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max replacements, they are the same internally but vary in size. The iPhone 11 Pro features a 5.8 inch Super Retina XDR OLED display while the iPhone 11 Pro Max features a 6.5 inch display, which supports High Dynamic Range. They also include a stainless steel and glass design. The camera system has the same wide and ultra-wide lens that the iPhone 11 has but also includes a third telephoto lens for enhanced zooming capabilities. Internally, the 11 Pro models are the same as the 11 with Apple’s A13 Bionic 7-nanometer chip.
During Apple’s keynote conference Wednesday, devices like the Apple Watch also saw an upgrade. There was also a newly introduced more affordable iPad. Apple also highlighted its new streaming service, Apple TV+, which will start streaming exclusive content on November 1, for $4.99 a month.
Just like the iPhone XR introduced last year, the iPhone 11 is Apple’s more affordable option which starts at $699, $50 less than the iPhone XR. The 11 Pro Models are going to cost you, with the 11 Pro starting at $999, and the 11 Pro Max starting at $1,099. Apple assured consumers that the premium 11 Pro is for its “pro’’ users.
Pre-orders for the devices began Friday. They will be available at carrier retailers around Austin as well as Barton Creek Square Mall and The Domain Apple Store locations on September 20th.
