AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation is temporarily closing the mainlanes of Interstate 35 in South Austin this weekend for the demolition of the Stassney Lane bridge.
- Full northbound and southbound closures
- Friday, August 23, 11 p.m. – 9 a.m
- Saturday, August 24, 11 p.m. – 10 a.m.
Northbound and southbound lanes of I-35 will be closed between US 290/SH 71 and south of Stassney Lane.
Southbound I-35 flyovers from east and westbound US 290/SH 71 will also be closed.
The closures will take place beginning 11 p.m. Friday night through 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The lanes will be closed again from 11 p.m. Saturday night through 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
During the closures, northbound I-35 traffic will be detoured to the frontage road through a temporary ramp just north of Nelms Drive. Southbound traffic must exit at Stassney Lane.
TxDOT says the Stassney Lane bridge will close Friday, August 23 at 8 p.m. for demolition.

The closures are part of the I-35 from Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive project. The $79 million project includes the reconstruction of the Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive bridges. The goal is to improve mobility, safety, and connectivity.
