AUSTIN, Texas -- The report card for Austin Independent School District is out, and while the preliminary rankings from the Texas Education Agency are a mixed bag, the district has again received an overall grade of “B.”
- AISD report card released Thursday
- District received overall "B" grade
- 8 schools received a failing grade
First, the good news. All AISD comprehensive high schools earned an “A” or “B,” indicating “exemplary” or “recognized” performance.
Troubling is that eight school received an “F,” indicating “unacceptable performance.” Those schools are Andrews and Barrington elementary schools, and Burnet, Dobie, Martin, Mendez, Sadler Means, and Webb middle schools.
Mendez, the district said in a release, will continue to operate under a partnership with the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Coalition and has two years to meet state standards.
This is the first year individual schools received letter performance grades.
“While we are proud of our gains, we recognize that our students and schools are more than one numerical grade,” Michelle Cavazos, chief officer for academics and social emotional learning, said in a statement. “No matter where our students start with us in AISD, we are closing the achievement gaps every day as we identify students’ strengths and get them to the finish line of being college and career ready when they cross the stage at graduation.”
Overall, the district received a “B” in overall performance, a “B” in student achievement, a “B” in school progress,” a “C” in academic growth, an “A” in relative performance, and a “B” for “closing the gaps.”
