MUSTANG RIDGE, Texas — Mustang Ridge Police Chief Leonard Cantu was in for the ‘shock’ of his life Friday morning.

  • Raised $15,000
  • Chief had never been shot with a stun gun
  • Mustang Ridge City Council recently approved purchase of stun guns

Chief Cantu surpassed his $15,000 fundraising goal for kids at Creedmoor Elementary School.

Chief Cantu volunteered to have himself publicly shot with a projectile stun gun as a fundraiser. He came up with the idea after Mustang Ridge’s city council approved the purchase of stun guns for his department. While all of his officers had been shot with stun guns before as part of training, he had not experienced it. Cantu then decided to make his five seconds of agony count by supporting students in need.

Friday, in front of nearly 50 people — including his family and fellow Travis County law enforcement officers — Cantu was shot with a stun gun for the first time. He shared with our Victoria Maranan what it was like and why it was important for him to support local kids.
