AUSTIN, Texas – Thanks to efforts by the Austin Animal Center, a family of ducks is back together once again.
According to the Austin Animal Center, an animal protection officer received a call for an injured duck on southbound Highway 183. However upon arrival, they found a family of ducks instead.
"The parents were OK and able to fly, but their nine ducklings walked right out into traffic on a very busy 183.” -- Animal Protection Officer Sain.
The animal protection officers were fortunate to arrive in time to save the ducklings. After they were gathered all up, the officer lost sight of the parents. After moving the ducklings into a nearby wooded area, the parents heard the cries of the ducklings and followed.
Officers only had to wait a few minutes before the parents came swooping in.
The Black-bellied Whistling duck family was safely reunited and waddled off into the sunset together.
