AUSTIN, Texas — Austin residents are getting a chance to learn how to keep utility costs low during those hot summer months.

Austin Energy and Austin Water teamed up to host meetings in areas of town with high energy usage to share tips and resources to save. City of Austin Utilities spokesperson Jennifer Herber said it’s their goal to keep costs low. 

“What we want to do is help people manage those bills so they don’t have that sticker shock every month when the bill comes,” Herber said. 

The companies started the events last year. Austin Energy Vice President Deborah Kimberly said meeting folks in their neighborhood is the best way to share the information.

“We think it’s really important to go to where our customers are,” Kimberly said. 

There’s still three more meetings scheduled throughout the month of July that you can still attend:

  • Thursday, July 11, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex at 1156 Hargrave Street
  • Wednesday, July 17, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. St Matthew’s Episcopal Church at 8134 Mesa Drive
  • Thursday, July 25, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church at 5226 West William Cannon Drive.
