AUSTIN, Texas – June 25, 2019, is recognized as “Anthony Bourdain Day" in recognition of the late chef, author, and television star’s birthday.

Tuesday would have been his 63rd birthday.

Bourdain, host of Travel Channel’s No Reservations and CNN’s Parts Unknown, made stops all around the world, eating at some of the most famous and smallest restaurants, including culinary delights in Austin. Many of the restaurants where he feasted on a meal have since closed. Yet as we remember Bourdain, here is a list of the places that are still open around town:

Barley SwineA forever-changing menu based on the farm-to-table ideology, this restaurant located on Burnet Road features a tasting menu with food produced by local farmers. The current menu features items such as bone marrow, duck stew, goat ham, and crab custard. While here, Bourdain ate foie gras, fried shrimp heads and grilled chicken testicles.

Quality Seafood Market: Located on Airport Boulevard in North Austin, Bourdain enjoyed a meal here back in 2012. The restaurant prides itself on featuring high quality fresh and frozen seafood, also featuring a retail market. The menu features items such as bacon-wrapped scallops, mango pineapple shrimp tacos, jalapeno salmon burgers, and PEI mussels. The restaurant was also featured on The Food Network’s Top 27 Restaurants in the State of Texas.

Perla's Seafood and Oyster Bar: Located on South Congress Avenue, Bourdain visited in 2010 with Chefs Lawrence McGuire and Thomas Moorman. The restaurant prides themselves to bring fresh oysters and premium seafood to Austin. The menu features a cold bar with more than 20 options, sandwiches featuring items such as Ahi tuna confit and lobster rolls, and large plates with choices including lobster frittata, crab Florentine, and sausage with oysters.

La Mexicana Bakery: This family-owned bakery on South 1st Street has been serving up Barbacoa tacos and Mexican pastries for 27 years. Bourdain once said the pastry was one of the sweetest he had ever eaten.
