AUSTIN, Texas -- It was just last year that the Texas baseball team went to the College World Series. It was just earlier this season that UT swept then #1 ranked LSU and climbed to as high as #12 in the polls. That’s what makes the finish to the season so surprising.
With a 13-0 loss on Friday afternoon to Oklahoma, Texas now has no hope of making even the Big 12 tournament and the NCAA tournament. It will be the first time they haven’t been to the conference tournament since 2013.
“It’s unfortunate but we looked like we were not ready to play today,” said UT head coach David Pierce. “We’ve got to start preparing for next year.”
Texas will finish last place in the Big 12 standings. Coach Pierce had never missed the NCAA tournament in his seven years as a head coach, including his first two with the Longhorns.
