AUSTIN, Texas — Construction begins Monday on a new dedicated bus lane in the downtown stretch of Guadalupe Street.
- Full lane closures begin May 18
- Construction could take up to 5 months
- Contraflow lane being added to Guadalupe Street
Crews will be constructing a passage called a contraflow lane, for buses to travel against traffic.
Beginning Saturday, lane closures will be in place on Guadalupe Street between 18th Street and 100 feet north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The closures will remain in place during the initial construction phase which will last at least four weeks. Drivers should expect delays during this phase.
Intermittent road closures will also take place during off-peak hours on:
- Lavaca Street between 15th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
- 18th Street between Lavaca Street and Guadalupe Street
Construction is expected to take up to five months.
Some of the road improvements include upgrades to the existing bike lanes and a new shared-use bike and pedestrian path on Guadalupe Street between 18th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
