SAN ANTONIO — A group of do-it-yourselfers are putting on Afropunk in the Pit, San Antonio's first black punk festival this weekend.
- Texas punk bands will perform
- Features screening of Afro-Punk
- Director of Afro-Punk will give talk
Austin bands BLXPLTN and Pleasure Venom and Houston bands Ojos htx, Mercutio & The Constantines, and Elaine Day are performing. The festival also includes a variety of vendors.
Attendees can also see a screening of James Spooner’s award-winning film Afro-Punk. Spooner, the director, will give a talk following the screening.
Xingonas in the Pit is hosting the event. On its Facebook page, the group describes itself as a “decolonial feminist punk collective aimed at creating a network of safe radical music spaces in San Antonio.”
Afropunk in the Pit takes place March 30 at La Botanica at 2911 N Saint Marys St. from 6 p.m. – 1 a.m.
