AUSTIN, Texas — Rock throwers are back along Interstate 35, but this time in Temple; one of the incidents claimed the life of a mother of three.
- Temple Police investigating two rock throwing incidents
- Keila Flores, 33, killed Saturday by rock
- Texas Rangers and FBI assisting local investigators
Temple Police said they are treating the case as a homicide and hoping to catch those responsible before they injure or kill someone else. Keila Flores, 33, died Saturday night while riding home to Waco from Round Rock with her boyfriend and three children.
"It hurts. I don't want to face reality that she's gone," said the victim's cousin Deneise Loredo.
Loredo said Flores was like a mom to her. She described Flores as someone who'd always make time for you and provide encouragement.

Second Rock-Throwing Incident in Temple After Fatal Incident
Temple Police said someone threw a rock at Flores' car around 8:41 p.m. Saturday near Exit 304 on Interstate 35. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second rock hit another car near Exit 302 around 10:16 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said the rock damaged a vehicle but did not injure anyone inside.
"It is important that we get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible and we make sure this is prevented from happening again," said Temple Police Department's Chris Christoff. "We do take it very seriously as it did result in the death of a person. Temple PD is doing all we can to make sure these two instances are resolved as quickly as possible."
Police say they're not sure if the two incidents are related, but they're definitely a top priority to solve. They've brought in the Texas Rangers and FBI to assist in the investigation, Christoff said.
"Why would you willingly throw rocks on a highway," Loredo said. "Did you not think about what the outcome was going to be?"
Loredo said her family is doing all they can to stay strong for Flores' three children.
"I don't want to believe [she is gone]," Loredo said. "Keila didn't deserve it."
Anyone with information about the rock throwing incidents is asked to call Temple Police at 254-298-5500 or Bell County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-TIPS (8477).
A funeral for Flores is scheduled for Saturday.
