AUSTIN, Texas — An inmate at the Travis County Correctional Complex died while receiving medical treatment.

According to Travis County Sheriff’s Office, on February 11, 40-year-old Steve Estevan Guajardo, of Austin, became unresponsive while receiving treatment from medical staff at the jail clinic. Staff started CPR immediately and called EMS, who responded and continued the efforts, but they were unsuccessful. Guajardo was pronounced deceased at 4:42 p.m.
Guajardo had been in jail since January 3 on a charge of injury to a child, elderly individual or disabled individual.
Evidence indicates Guajardo died of natural causes. The final report is pending toxicology results.
An autopsy was conducted on February 12.
Investigations by the Internal Affairs Unit, the Round Rock Police Department, and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office are ongoing.
