ELGIN, Texas – Three people have died after a crash in Bastrop County on Tuesday.

  • 3 dead in Hwy 290 crash
  • Traffic was diverted to Old McDade Road
  • Caused morning delays

The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. on westbound Highway 290 and Roy Davis Road. Texas Highway Patrol said a tractor-trailer failed to yield to a suburban, causing the crash.

The driver of the suburban, 21-year-old male Jesus J Escalante Valdez, and two passengers, 21-year-old Alixis Eduardo Hernandez and 22-year-old Clemente Nava, have been declared deceased. All three were from Bastrop.

Highway 290 was shut down for several hours at Roy Davis Road, causing major morning delays for commuters. The roadways reopened to traffic about 11:30 a.m. 

The cause of the crash has not been released.
