TEXAS – The Lone Star state is celebrating the 110th birthday of Lyndon Johnson, the president who called Texas home.

Lyndon B. Johnson Day is a legal state holiday in Texas celebrating the 36th president. State offices will be minimally staffed on Monday, Aug. 27 to mark LBJ's birthday.

The holiday is an optional work day for state employees. It was passed by the state legislature back in 1973; the same year LBJ died.

Texans can pay homage to the politician by visiting the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park in Stonewall, Texas. One hour west of Austin, the ranch is a place where visitors can explore his childhood home.

In Austin, the LBJ Presidential Library is hosting a birthday party on University of Texas campus. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free birthday back, refreshments, and a blood drive.
