AUSTIN, Texas – Four years after her 2-year-old son was found dead, buried in southeast Austin, Meagan Work has pleaded guilty to injury to a child.
In 2014, toddler Colton Turner was found in a shallow grave after his mother and her boyfriend, Michael Turner, claimed he died from hitting his head. Investigators said the couple never called police for medical help and determined he had been dead for months prior to finding his body.
Police said Work gave them numerous conflicting stories about what happened to Colton. She first claimed he had been kidnapped and then changed her story to say that she gave him away. Finally, she told officer that he hit his head on an A/C unit and died in a motel room.
Five days after the body was found, a witness told police that he saw Work abusing Colton outside Michael Turner's workplace on July 7.
Previously Work pled not guilty in 2015 to the felony charges, including injury to a child and tampering with evidence. Michael Turner pled guilty to reckless injury to a child in 2016 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Work will return to court in November for sentencing.
