STATEWIDE — Dusty air from Africa's Sahara Desert is currently stretching across the Atlantic and into the eastern Caribbean. It will reach the Texas coast by Friday.
Often referred to as African dust, the cloud will blow minimally into the Central Texas area, creating a haze over the weekend.
African dust is a mixture of sand and dust from the Sahara, the vast desert area that covers most of North Africa. This traveling dust happens every year, in large quantities, and often, multiple times throughout the summer.
According to Spectrum News meteorologist Mary Wasson, in Austin and San Antonio, we may see visible haze and increased irritation for asthma and allergy sufferers.
