AUSTIN--Paddleboarders started out their week standing up to cancer for this year's "Dam that Cancer."

Over 180 people launched their watercraft at Mansfield Dam early Monday morning for a 21-mile journey to Tom Miller Dam to pay tribute to loved ones fighting cancer and in memory of those who have lost their fight.

The event benefits the Flatwater Foundation, a local nonprofit that provides mental health services to cancer patients and those affected by the diagnosis. According to the American Cancer Society, cancer takes a toll on your emotional health, causing significant anxiety, fear and depression.

One paddler shared her story with our Victoria Maranan on why she keeps on going back.
