TEXAS – A new report is shedding light on the calculated minimum livable wage a person needs to make to afford a two-bedroom home in the United States.
Americans need to bring home $22.10 per hour to afford a standard home, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition. The federal minimum wage is $7.25.
The report states that renters would need to work 122 hours per week at the minimum wage to be able to afford a rental home.
In Texas, the average wage to be able to afford a two-bedroom home is $19.32 per hour. Texas’ minimum wage is $7.25.
For those making $19 an hour they would still have to work from 86 to 107 per week to afford a home.
In Travis County, Texans would have to earn a minimum of $25 per hour to afford a two-bedroom house.
The average income to afford a two-bedroom in San Antonio is from $18 up to $28 per hour.
