INTERNATIONAL – Scientists have uncovered a spider relative that crawled on the Earth 100 million years ago.

The new three millimeter species, Chimerarachne Yingi was found preserved in amber in Myanmar. This arachnid highlights “a key transition stage in spider evolution,” states the article.

The article, “Cretaceous arachnid Chimerarachne yingi gen. et. Sp. Nov. illuminates spider origins,” said this is likely the earliest branch of Araneae, the scientific name for spiders.

The implication is that there has been a long line of tailed spiders that originated during the Paleozoic era surviving through the Cretaceous era.

Researchers have no idea if it was venomous.
