Maddie Kirker is a meteorologist for Spectrum News 1 Texas. She joined the team in August 2024.
Maddie graduated in 2011 from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Meteorology. While at Mississippi State, she won honors in the National Collegiate Weather Challenge, forecasting her way to first place out of 1,500 undergraduates, and fourth overall in the town of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Maddie brings 13 years of news experience from across the nation to her role with Spectrum News. Prior to joining Spectrum News, in 2022, Maddie spent time in Columbus, Ohio as the Morning and Noon Meteorologist at 10TV News. Before that, she spent three and a half years as the weekday, noon, and 4pm Meteorologist at News 3 in Norfolk, Virginia. She spent three years in Colorado Springs at FOX 21 News as the Weekend Morning Meteorologist. She also worked as the Morning Meteorologist at WPDE in Myrtle Beach and at WCBI-TV in Columbus, Mississippi as a Meteorologist. Throughout her career she’s covered an impressive variety of severe weather events including violent tornadoes, hailstorms, hurricanes, wildfires, and major flooding events.
When Maddie is not working, she enjoys traveling, rock climbing, backcountry camping, hiking and anything with her Bernese Mountain Dog, Ranger. Prior to adopting Ranger, Maddie was owner and coworker to Chester the Golden Retriever, whom had an extensive career in TV news as “Chester the Weather Dog” showcasing local pets in “Chester’s Crew” and giving back in “Chester Cares.” The two of them are active members of the globally accredited Go Team Therapy, Airport and Crisis Dogs team. They’ve have spent more thousands of hours volunteering at hospitals, schools and nursing homes and love giving back to the community in any way they can.
