Your Weather Planner

Friday begins with clouds and temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Full sunshine arrives by afternoon with highs soaring into the 80s. Austin and San Antonio may very well see near-record highs. All of this is fleeting as a cold front dives into the state Friday night, bringing "cooler" temperatures over the weekend. Storms will be possible for DFW and Waco on Saturday. Elsewhere, showers will likely be few and far between.

Today's Big Stories

1. Trump delays tariffs on products from Mexico and Canada that fall under USMCA trade pact until April 2

Two days after enacting a 25% tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico, President Donald Trump on Thursday signed executive actions delaying the levies on products from the two countries that fall under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement until April 2.

The president had already announced that such an amendment to his orginal tariffs would apply to Mexico but not Canada in a post on Truth Social earlier Thursday, saying he made the decision after speaking with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

2. House censures Democratic Rep. Al Green for disrupting Trump's joint address to Congress

The House on Thursday voted to censure an unrepentant Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, for disrupting President Donald Trump's address to Congress.

Green stood and shouted at Trump during his speech Tuesday night after the Republican president said the Nov. 5 election had delivered a governing mandate not seen for many decades. The resolution against Green was approved in a mostly party-line vote of 224-198.

3. Veterans fired from federal jobs say they feel betrayed, including some who voted for Trump

The Department of Veterans Affairs — a major employer of veterans — is planning a reorganization that includes cutting over 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency, according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. Veterans represent more than 25% of the VA’s workforce.

In interviews, several veterans who supported candidates of both parties described their recent job losses as a betrayal of their military service. They are particularly angered by how it happened: in an email that cited inadequate job performance — despite, they say, receiving positive reviews in their roles.

4. Second federal judge extends block preventing Trump administration from freezing funding

A second federal judge on Thursday extended a block barring the Trump administration from freezing grants and loans potentially totaling trillions of dollars.

U.S. District Court Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island granted the preliminary injunction in the lawsuit filed by nearly two dozen Democratic states after a Trump administration plan for a sweeping pause on federal spending stirred up a wave of confusion and anxiety across the United States.
