The city of Rochester has provided an update on its winter operations. Mayor Malik Evans says the continuous snow and daily average temperatures below freezing this year have made operations more difficult.

The city is in contact with its supplier of rock salt amid a shortage across the state. Evans says the supplier has assured him there will be no significant impact.

The mayor is also reminding residents that residential streets will be plowed once three inches of snow have fallen and sidewalks once 4 inches have fallen.

"I want to remind everyone that following alternate side parking rules is critical during the winter," said Evans. "Many of our streets were designed at a time when we didn't have large snow removal equipment, so obeying parking rules is especially important on our narrow streets."

Residents and businesses are required to clear any snow accumulation below 3-4 inches.
