ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local lawmakers are calling for an increase in funding for public transportation in the 2021-2022 New York state budget.
Region transit service officials say they are looking for a 10% bump in the budget.
These funds will help RTS add new bus routes and incorporate green buses, as well as recover from pandemic-related expenses.
One legislator says communities throughout Rochester would feel the effects of an underfunded RTS.
"Inadequate funding would fall heavily on the shoulders of the poor and working class," said Assemblyman Demond Meeks. "We must sustain what has sustained many in this community and fully fund RTS."
