Another golf tournament is coming to Rochester.
The PGA of America announced Wednesday that Oak Hill and the Country Club of Rochester will host the 2028 Junior PGA Championships.
The four-day event is expected to see 312 players taking part. Competitors must be amateurs no older than 18 on the last day of the competition.
Local tourism officials say this will be a chance to catch the next generation of potential golf greats.
"Tiger Woods won this. Scottie Scheffler won this. Jordan Spieth won this. Justin Thomas won this. So all the really great names of golf now have won this tournament," said Don Jeffries, president and CEO of Visit Rochester. "And we're excited because it's both men and women."
“We are looking forward to bringing the 2028 Junior PGA Championships to these two historic New York courses with longstanding ties to the PGA of America,” PGA of America President Don Rea Jr. said in a statement. “Both clubs have hosted some of golf’s elite events, with The Country Club of Rochester hosting multiple U.S. Women’s Opens and Oak Hill Country Club hosting four PGA Championships and a Ryder Cup. Both golf courses are classic designs by Donald Ross, and I know they will be a great test for the top junior golfers. I want to thank Visit Rochester for their significant support in bringing these Championships to Monroe County.”
In 2027, Oak Hill will host the 127th U.S. Amateur Championship as well.
