Webster Schroeder is a team on the rise in Class AA thanks in large part to the play of senior quarterback Travis Dear.

Head Coach Mike Stumpf said Dear is one of the top students in his senior class, calling him a bright kid.

"It's a lot of stuff we're doing. Coach Stumpf has been doing a great job with all the offense we've been doing, (we) got a lot of new plays this year, a lot of different things that we're doing. So, it's been a lot to process but it's been fun doing it,” Dear said. “I've enjoyed it."

Some Warrior alumni helped the team through the summer, including Cortland quarterback brothers Brees and Brett Segala, along with St. John Fisher wide receiver Will Blake.

“It's not about the individual, it's about the team,” Dear said. “(That) was a really important message that the older guys said to us."

A sense of team unity is high with the Warriors as they try to carry that spirit through to Sectionals.

"I think it was pretty cool from them to see a guy who was one of their water boys when they were in high school and now he's kind of where they were when they were seniors in high school,” Stumpf said.

"Having the chemistry to trust someone to make a play, coach always says, you don't have to make the tackle or the catch but you can make the play by doing your job and sacrificing for other people to make the play," said Webster Schroeder senior Austin Riesenberger.

Schroeder will host Fairport in the Spectrum News Friday Night Matchup. Coverage will begin live at 7:00 p.m.

"It doesn't last forever, just enjoy every moment out here with my brothers, with all the fans especially on Friday nights, it's a great feeling,” Dear said.
