HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a man with a gun interrupted an evening at a local restaurant and exchanged gunfire with deputies inside the establishment.
Police responded to the Carrabba's Italian Grill on West Henrietta Road just after 7:30 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a man behind the bar with a gun. Two deputies entered the restaurant and made contact with the man, who they have identified as Alonzo Jones, 33, of Rochester. The deputies then attempted to de-escalate the situation.
The sheriff's office says two more deputies entered the restaurant through a separate door and it was at that time they say Jones pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at them. Jones then fired his gun, officials say, just missing a deputy's head.
The sheriff's office says deputies fired back but did not hit Jones. They say Jones then went to the ground and dropped his gun. He was taken into custody without further incident, according to investigators.
No one was injured during the incident, deputies say.
Jones is charged with attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, officials say.
The sheriff's office says Jones was arraigned in Henrietta Town Court and taken to the Monroe County Jail on no bail. Investigators say further charges are possible.
