ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Mayor Malik Evans is responding to the recent rash of violent incidents involving gunshots being fired into city homes.
Police say there have been at least 10 incidents in the past week.
One of the attacks wounded a 42-year-old man inside a home on Bernard Street. Authorities say he's recovering from his injuries.
Mayor Evans says it's important that members of the community come forward and share information with the police.
"We need individuals to come forward and cooperate with us," said Evans. "And in many of these instances, people whose houses have been hit are uncooperative. So we need people to feel as though they have the ability to step up and work with law enforcement, work with the city, so we can deal with that."
Evans says taking illegal guns off the streets is as important as witnesses speaking up.
