ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and her husband Timothy Granison appeared in court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to all charges related to a raid on the mayor's home.
Both Warren and Granision are charged with criminal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and failure to secure the firearm.
They were arraigned at 10:30 a.m. before Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone. Both Warren and Granison were released on their own recognizance.
The charges came after a May 19 raid at Warren's home on Woodman Park where investigators found a rifle and pistol inside, as well as their 10-year-old daughter home alone, police say. The raid was part of an investigation into Granison who authorities say is part of a drug trafficking ring in Rochester.
The mayor had previously said she had no knowledge of her husband's alleged illegal activity and had been separated from him for some time.
Granison's attorney John DeMarco spoke up over the weekend about the charges. He says more evidence will come out that will prove the innocence of Granison and Warren in this case.
"I think the overwhelming proof here is that both of the folks here that are accused, their daughter is very lovingly and well cared for," said DeMarco. "The proof will come out as to who the firearm was registered to and I think the substance of the charges are certainly not what they appear to be."
Mayor Warren, who is also facing campaign finance fraud charges, claims she will be cleared of all wrongdoing.
Neither Warren nor her office has commented on the firearm charges since they were announced on Friday.
If convicted, the firearms charge could bring a prison sentence of one and a third to four years.
