CLARKSON, N.Y. — A water main break in Clarkson is affecting the towns of Clarkson and Sweden and the village of Brockport.

Monroe County Water Authority officials say a burst water main in Clarkson on Friday morning affected water pressure in both towns and the village, which increases the chances that microbes and bacteria may be in the water.

Village officials say residents should bring their water to a roiling boil for two minutes and let it cool before using it to drink, cook, wash dishes or brush their teeth.

While testing of the lines is underway, the boil water advisory is likely to remain in effect for 36 to 48 hours.

SUNY Brockport students and staff on campus are also advised to boil water before using it.
