Rochester police made another round of arrests during protests in downtown that kicked off on Thursday and stretched into Friday morning.

At times, demonstrations turned violent.

Protesters gathered and chanted near the Public Safety Building, beginning around 9:30 p.m.

Tensions began rising around 10:30 p.m. with police deploying pepper spray and pepper balls multiple times in a 10-minute span.

This comes after the arrest and death of Daniel Prude in police custody in March, which has led to the suspension of seven Rochester police officers involved.

Spectrum News crews on the scene say that some protesters were seen deflecting the pepper balls with umbrellas or throwing plastic bottles at the police officers. Crews at the scene were too far away to see what led to the deployment of pepper spray and pepper balls.

Protesters marched from Jefferson Avenue, where they were protesting following a demonstration at a United Christian Ministry Event.

Several people have been arrested during these protests over the past few days, including outside of Rochester City Hall when protesters blocked traffic, and Wednesday outside the PSB.

At least a few hundred people were in attendance.
