A large crowd gathered in downtown Rochester on Friday for a Black Lives Matter protest.

Hundreds of people holding signs sat down in the middle of West Main Street near the Monroe County Office Building.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Congressman Joe Morelle were part of the protest.

A large police presence was also there to keep the peace, but as of this writing the situation had remained peaceful.

The demonstration is one of many taking place across the country over the last several days since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Floyd died while being arrested after one of four officers placed his knee on Floyd's neck while holding him down. All four officers involved in the incident have been arrested and charged in the case.

Some protesters yelled towards the officers asking them to join them, or to sake hands with them. One officer even took part in a socially-distant 'fist bump.'

The protest began to clear out after 4 p.m., but groups still remain as of 7:00 p.m.
