Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan traveled to Albany on Tuesday to call on lawmakers to roll back a controversial set of bail reform laws.
Chief Phelan joined law-enforcement officials and prosecutors from around the state to call for immediate action from lawmakers. Chief Phelan is also the president of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police.
Senator rich funke tweeted a picture of the gathering.
The reforms went into effect this year, and brought the elimination of monetary bail for people facing misdemeanors and nonviolent felony charges.
The bail reform laws have been the subject of controversy since they were proposed. Advocates say the reform helps those who don't have the money to make bail and often people of color, who are nonviolent, non-repeat offenders, get out from behind bars.
